The Refresh project

Banyule City Council (on behalf of 6 northern councils) are currently seeking feedback on the draft Northern Regional Trails Strategy (2022).

Its focus is to deliver and strengthen trails that connect significant features across our municipalities and provide wide-scale benefits for the community.

The draft 2022 Strategy includes an updated blueprint and strategic framework for the future development and maintenance of a recreational off-road trail network across northern metropolitan Melbourne.

The strategy has been endorsed by Banyule, Darebin, Hume, Merri-bek, Nillumbik and Whittlesea Councils.

The trails

The network is made up of:

• 120 existing off-road trails and
• 96 proposed regional trails in northern metropolitan Melbourne.

What is the intent of the refresh?

The draft Northern Regional Trails Strategy considers:

• Trail projects already completed;
• Revised Council priorities;
• Modified landscape as a result of significant state infrastructure projects;
• Changes resulting from rapid growth in population, economy and urban footprint.

Have your say

The 2022 Strategy assesses proposed actions for trail improvement against a set of criteria to come up with a priority list of the 'top ten unfunded trail action items' across northern metropolitan Melbourne. We want to know which of these are most important to you!
